Katie Garonzik is a native of Boise, Idaho. Raised in a musical family, she was highly influenced by the jazz and fusion music played by her father, renowned woodwind instrumentalist and former Blues Bouquet owner, Phil Garonzik. Katie’s interest in music performance began early. In grade school, she studied voice, piano, and theatre.

Katie holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Music Education and studied a wide variety of musical styles in college, but the overarching umbrella of jazz continues to pull her in. Her vocal stylings have been described as haunting and rich, with playful and unique phrasing that “makes your arm hairs tingle…you feel like she’s singing to you right in your living room”.

Her musical influences are varied from jazz, rock, Brazilian and Latin, and more contemporary indie rock and folk. Her vocal stylings have been influenced by a myriad of artists such as Billie Holiday, Loretta Lynn, Blossom Dearie, Al Jarreau, Cat Stevens, Amy Winehouse, Donald Fagen, Karrin Allyson and Esperanza Spaulding.

Katie has performed under the moniker “Katie G. & the Half Maccs” since 2017. She also performs with various duos, was lead vocalist and keyboardist for the now defunct country-rock cover band The Rockits, and guest spots for other bands and local community events. She has also been in community theater productions with Boise Little Theater, Stagecoach Theater, and Knock ‘Em Dead. In addition to her performance skills, she has a knack for bringing together other highly skilled musicians and manages her band with diligent organization, a positive attitude, and a solutions-based mindset.
Katie has also been a board member of the Idaho Jazz Education Endowment, a non-profit organization which provides youth scholarships for jazz music studies, since 2018. She is the youngest board member in the organization’s history.

A heavily vintage jazz and Brazilian samba infused group founded in 2017. Katie G. & The Half Maccs perform regularly at venues in the Treasure Valley area and are available for booking private events.
